'Manchester Pride' became a registered charity in 2007. It has gone from strength to strength enabling a celebration of expression for LGBT+ Communities. Every year over the August Bank Holiday the celebrations take place supporting queer owned and run businesses. In addition, raising money for LGBT+ good causes.
It is one of the Manchester's biggest parades enabling thousands of LGBT+ people to march together shoulder by shoulder for equality. Thousands more turn out to support the event too as spectators watch and traffic is diverted from the parade.
However, sadly not everyone supports the event and a high proportion of LGBT+ people within their everyday lives can go through bullying, social isolation, homophobia, transphobia, or rejection by family or friends because of their sexuality. leading to anxiety and depression
It is a fact that various issues can affect LGBT people's mental health but according to the NHS they are more common with people who are from this community.
On top of this of course their could be other reasons such as age-related issues, religion, living arrangements etc adding other layers of anxiety or depression.
Talking about how you feel with a qualified therapist can help with how you are feeling with someone who is non-judgemental and for you to talk in confidence.
Issues you might want to bring are as follows:
coping with other peoples reactions to your sexuality
transitioning or difficulty accepting self
Low self esteem or confidence
Depression and anxiety
Fear of violence
Coping with bullying
Family reactions
Therapy/counselling can help if you are feeling:
Anxious or depressed
Upset and tearful
Self harm or have intrusive thoughts about hurting yourself
You want to cease from using other coping methods such as drugs/alcohol
