Keep Learning and Get Balance in Your Life

Updated: Dec 27, 2022

This is one of the areas of wellbeing

Learning new skills is important for a person’s wellbeing whether we are four, fourteen, forty or further on into our adult life. This is a way to increase your self-confidence and self-esteem by continuing to keep on learning. For a long and healthy life learning new things will keep your brain active and sharp.

Globalisation brings a shrinking world, so there are more opportunities to learn new things outside of your hometown. More and more people are travelling to places further afield and not just for a holiday but relocating for a couple of years in another country. Therefore, learning a new language can benefit us in more ways than one, as this can stimulate your mind and broaden your horizons. Some of those horizons could be on the other side of the world.

Who knows this time next year you could be surfing in December in the warm waters of Australia!

Alternatively, it could be things nearer home… it’s just a few steps to your kitchen and perhaps a new recipe awaits your attention. Making things for others is another way to boost our self-esteem as we feel good when we give to others. Again, this is a stage of progression as you hone your skills every time you engage in your culinary skills.

A new hobby can relieve stress and enable you to feel proud of yourself. Its also a talking point when connecting with others.

“Get balance in your life…literally!”

When we learn new things, it can often stem from a progression through different levels for example: moving from skills learnt on skateboard to body board/skim board to a surfboard.

The way forward with any new learning experience is to set yourself a goal that is achievable, in other words don’t set yourself up to fail.

Once having learnt a new skill, it is good to encourage others to join in our newfound pastime. Of course, it could be rekindling a sport we did in our younger years. Work, housework as well as children can soak up our time but it is always to have a check in with ourselves to make sure we are working so we can enjoy our living in doing lots of interesting pastimes rather than just living to work.
